Your LinkedIn Profile – do you love yours?

Do you love your LinkedIn Profile? And are you using it to its full potential?

Your LinkedIn Profile is your opportunity to showcase who you are, what you do, and how and why you do it. It’s just one part of your professional marketing collateral.

creating your Linkedin Profile

Why do you have a LinkedIn Profile?

If you’re like me, you’ve probably had your LinkedIn profile for quite a number of years. I know when I first created my profile, I didn’t have a clue how to use it to its full potential and like many only used it as my digital CV or logged in when I was searching for a job.

As a social media platform for professionals, LinkedIn has evolved over the years and my aim for using LinkedIn and my LinkedIn profile has changed too. I use LinkedIn to keep up to date with what is happening in the world of work, both in and outside of my industry. I specifically use my LinkedIn Profile to connect and network with my peers and other people in my industry and outside of my industry. I also use my profile to be seen as an expert in my field. And I have used my profile to land a job or two!

Why and how do you use yours?

If your aim for using LinkedIn is to connect to professional people, land your dream job or be seen as an expert in your field, spend some time updating your profile and start using it to its fullest potential.

LinkedIn is so much more than a job search platform

Your LinkedIn Profile is just one part of your professional marketing collateral.  And is your opportunity to showcase who you are, what you do, and how and why you do it via a social media platform.

More and more companies are utilising LinkedIn to post their job vacancies, search for candidates who would be a good fit, and employ people via LinkedIn. And if you’re not utilising your profile to its fullest potential, you are potentially missing out on your dream job.

With these kinds of stats are YOU getting in on the action?

LinkedIn is THE preferred social media platform for professionals – it’s time for you to let go of any fear you have and embrace it.

Get the basics right!

Your name – I know it sounds strange, but use your full name.

Your headline – this is the section just underneath your name and is usually the title of your current job. The good news is you can change your headline.  You have up to 220 characters – use this section to its fullest potential to share with your audience who you are, what you do, why you do it, and your point of difference. Think of it as your elevator pitch!

Your personal URL – LinkedIn gives you the option to personalise your URL.  Take advantage of this as it takes up less room on your CV and looks neater.  Claim your unique URL using this example – www.linkedin.com/in/yourname
